The 10K for 2024 is new and improved! Distance, technical navigation skills, a beautiful variety of water and wind conditions. Race begins at Windjammer Park with a beach start. 50 yards out to your first 90 degree right hand buoy turn. Make a counter clockwise turn around Windjammer Island and watch out for the shallow shore on the backside! Cut diagnol across the main channel where wind and boat waves may be at their best. Upon reaching the far shore you are required to stay on the outside of the bouy and begin your 2 mile trek following shoreline coves into Big Allison. Half way through your race you will make a left hand 180 degree turn around the large Goat Boater Buoy making your way back. On your way back you will take a different path veering further south to Goat Island. Make a counterclockwise turn around the outside of the Island and back to the Bouy on the West side of the main channel. When you hit this bouy you make your last 90 degree right hand turn to sprint across the main channel through the PuckerButt Pepper Company Shark Finish Line for a sandy beach finish with paddle in hand!

The 10K Race begins at Ebenezer Park with a Water Start, we will be heading into uncharted territory up a winding cove called Big Allison. She is scenic and beautiful. Yet do not dismiss her mischievousness. The open channel to start and finish can be like a washing machine and wind can be sneaky up the channel. All and all this should be a great 5K grind down to a buoy turn and 5K grind back for a water photo finish line for all to see right next to the pier!

6K Paddle Battle
The Goat Boater SUP Race Series on Lake Wylie last race of the season. Race #6 of 6, the 6K Paddle Battle (3 laps, 19 buoy turns).
The final race of the series ends with the most technical! Three full 2K laps with 6 buoy turns per lap! This will be a beach start moving in a clockwise direction this year, where you will head to the first buoy 50 yards out, for the first right hand buoy turn. Make your way inside of Windjammer Island for your first right hand buoy turn in the cove. Coming back out you will find your second left hand turn in the middle of the channel. Continue on to your next right hand turn in a small cove not far away. Afterwards you will cut across Windjammer cove to make a 120 degree right turn around this buoy, head back out to the middle for your last left hand buoy turn to then follow the left hand shoreline around to your starting buoy. Make a right hand 180 degree turn to start your second lap. Confused yet?
On your last lap, make a left hand turn around the start buoy and enjoy your well earned beach finish.
Historically paddle battle races are usually in the ocean surf. Even though we are an inland lake, don't despair, we brought our own waves this year! Be prepared for a bit of turbulence and the chance to catch a few glides along the way. :)
This is an excellent race for family and friends to watch the action. Almost all of this race can be viewed 1st hand from Windjammer park and three laps should make the action loads of fun. Directly after this race the season awards ceremony will take place. We’ll be giving away monster prizes thanks to our amazing 2022 SUP Race Series sponsors!
All Goat Boater Races are capped at 60 racers and this is a SUP only event. Registration is currently open on PaddleGuru.

10K
Race 3 of The Goat Boater SUP Race Series, the 10K. This is one of the most common local paddleboard race distances. We will start at Windjammer beach with a beach start out to the first monster bouy 50 yards off the shore for a right hand 90 degree turn. From there you have a wide open main channel hike 2.5 miles up the lake where you will find the second monster bouy to make a 180 degree right turn around. Half way back this is where the race starts to get more technical. You will make a left hand turn into Boyds cove where you have a 1/2 mile grind to the back of the cove to find your next bouy to make a right hand 180 degree shoulder turn around making your way back out of the cove. Make a left turn (following the shore line) back into the main channel. Follow the shore line left to tuck on the inside of Windjammer island. Make your way back out to the main channel one more time finding your starting 1st bouy. You will be required to make a last left hand 90 degree turn around the starting buoy and make your way to the beach for a short running beach finish. This makes for a fun and technical 2nd half of the 10K allowing for ample passing opportunities and strong finish.

You will be required to make a last left hand 90 degree turn around the starting buoy to make your way to the beach for a short running beach finish. PREVIEW THE COURSE HERE This is a SUP only event. Windjammer offers great views for you and your family to watch the race and enjoy some beautiful views of Lake Wylie. The Goat Boater Race series is unique in many ways. Most notably our 1 mile social paddle directly after the race for all paddlers and guests. Registration is now open on PaddleGuru! REGISTER HERE
6K PADDLE BATTLE
Race 9: The final race of the series ends with the most exciting! Instead of a sprint or down and back race, this race is 3 laps to glory! Time to have some fun with a paddle Battle launching from Windjammer Park! This will be a beach start/beach finish with 5 buoy turns per lap (15 total)! The most technical race in our series begins with a Beach start where you will head to the first buoy 50 yards out for the first right hand buoy turn. Follow the right hand shoreline to head around Windjammer Peninsula to make a left hand turn around the second buoy. Head straight across the cove and make a left hand turn around the third buoy. Not far away you will find a intermediate buoy to make a 45 degree right turn at and follow the right shoreline up to your 4th buoy to make a left hand pivot turn. Confused yet? View the virtual course here: https://www.relive.cc/view/vPv4G4rN33q At this point you are racing back on the inside of the island to the first starting buoy where you will make a left hand turn for your next lap (that was 2K of paddling). After completing your third lap for a total of 6K worth of paddling, make your final left hand bouy turn at the start bouy and enjoy your well earned beach finish. This is an excellent race for family and friends to watch the action. Almost all of this race can be viewed 1st hand from Windjammer park and three laps should make the action so much fun. Directly after this race we will be doing our season awards ceremony and giving away all the monster prizes we have lined up!
12K SUP RACE
Race 8: The 12K, our longest race of the series. 7.5 miles of water up a beautiful stretch of main channel on Lake Wylie with a view of Buster Boyd Bridge before the halfway point turn. Start at Windjammer Park with a sand beach start. Sprint 50 yards out to the Monster Red Bouy and make your right hand turn to head 6k up the lake. When you start seeing the bridge you know you are close to the next monster red bouy to make a right hand turn and make your way back to Windjammer. Prior to finishing you will need to make a last minute left hand turn around the starting bouy again, sprint to the beach for a running finish up the sand with your paddle in hand!
10K SUP RACE
Race 7: The 10K. It's that time of the series for our long distance races to take place. We start with a Water Start and paddle up through Niven’s Creek to the main channel of Lake Wylie for 5K hugging the right hand shoreline until you get to the monster red buoy to make your left hand shoulder turn (Counter-Clockwise) and follow the same course back to the finish. In most regional races this is considered an advanced race due to the distance, yet if you are an endurance athlete, we just call it more than 6 miles. A great way for our endurance athletes to show everyone what they have. Sprinters sprint and long distance racers race. Come out and have a blast on this 10K race day!
2000M SUPER SPRINT SUP RACE
Race 6: The 2K Sprint. This distance is rarely called a sprint, yet in the Goat Boater SUP CUP series it is! Test your technical skills going through this big 'V' and smaller 'W' course, 2K total. Not only does your sprinting ability play a significant role in your overall time, but so does your buoy turn skills. 5 fast turns vs 5 slower turns could make all the difference in 1st or 2nd place along with your strategy through the course. So make sure to practice your buoy turns ahead of time. You will start with a sitting water start and head down 500M for a right hand shoulder turn (Clock-Wise) around the white marker buoy. Head back to the other side of the cove to complete the first 'V' of the course. Make a right hand shoulder turn around the big red monster buoy to start the 'W' of the course. You will make a left hand turn around the first point of the W, right hand turn of the middle, left hand turn at the second point of the W and finish where you started with a water finish line. This is a water line start and photo finish and offers great views for spectators at The Tega Cay Beach Club. For those still breathing, we will do a 1-2 mile social paddle after for all interested.
6K SUP RACE
Race 5: A 6K launching from Windjammer Park to start pushing your distance and a New Course for the series! This is a sitting water start that begins in the main channel of Lake Wylie. The main channel can have some wind and waves but you will have some protection from the island and the cove to reward your hard efforts in the beginning. After starting your race you will hug the inside (right side) of Windjammer Island and come back out to the main channel hugging the right side shoreline. View the virtual run here: https://www.relive.cc/view/v8qV9PVLy36 Make a right hand turn into Snug Harbor Cove and race to the back. When you get to the back of the cove you will find the large red monster buoy to make your left hand shoulder turn (Counter-Clockwise) around. Crush it back out of the cove to the main channel and make a left hand turn at the main channel back to the start line. (keep in mind we will not follow the inside of the island on the way back), it is a straight shot home, where you will make a left hand 90 degree turn around the start buoy to the beach for a short running beach finish. Windjammer Park offers great views for spectators to watch the entire start of the race and everyone coming back down the channel for a photo beach run finish. There will be a 1-2 mile social paddle after the race for all interested.
1000M SUP RACE
Race 4: The 1000 M Sprint. This is our second sprint of the series and we would love you to come test your sprinting skills and also your ability to make a fast turn. This race is short, down and dirty. A 500M water start down with a fast Left Hand shoulder turn and 500m back for a water finish. Come join us for a great sprinting discipline with a social paddle after for all those still standing. This sprint is also in a great location for all to watch from the beach. The entire race can be viewed from the shoreline with a great photo finish. Register on PaddleGuru. Relive the race course by Clicking Here.
5K SUP RACE
Race 3: The 5K. This is by far the most common local paddleboard race distance. For those that completed the 4K one month ago, it is time to step up your game to the 5K. We will start at Windjammer beach with a water start, make a sweeping right turn around Windjammer island and move across the channel to hug the left side of the shore. Make a 180 degree pivot turn at the half way point around the monster red buoy and follow the same course back. You will be required to make a last left hand 90 degree turn around the starting buoy to make your way to the beach for a running finish. Windjammer offers great views for you and your family to watch the race and enjoy some beautiful views of Lake Wylie. Register on PaddleGuru. Relive the race course by Clicking Here.
200M SUP RACE
Race 2: The 200M Sprint! We will run this sprint two times on this day with a best of two format for scoring. If you like your first run it is your choice if you want to run it again. We realize this is a short race and unusual, yet The International Canoe Federation heralds this event as the ultimate test of sprinting ability. In 2019 Connor Baxter broke the record doing this in under 60 seconds (47 seconds to be exact). Although Sprinting is newer to the SUP Community, it is a discipline here to stay and we welcome the opportunity to practice it. This entire race will have great views from land for spectators to watch, cheer and capture a photo finish. Register on PaddleGuru. Relive the race course by Clicking Here
4K SUP RACE
This Race: Come start the season and series out with a 4K. We will start at Windjammer beach, circle around Windjammer Island and make a 180 degree pivot turn and follow the same course back to the beach for all the cheddar. Windjammer offers great views for you and your family to watch the race! Register on PaddleGuru. Relive the race course by Clicking Here
